As I reflect on the year, I hear many people say how glad they are that it is nearly over and how next year can only get better. (Sounds familiar lol). But I would like to us all to reflect on the positives of the year that was.

We can thank the C-word virus for forcing many of us to make changes that were overdue and necessary. We learnt how flexible working environments can be, how adaptable we are, the importance of caring for others, how fragile and robust we can be.

It’s time to reflect on 2021 – so please enjoy my horsey 12 days of Christmas, which includes important and positive lessons from the year just gone.

When I sat down to write this last blog for 2021, I naturally reflected on the events of the past year. Oh to be a horse, I thought! They do not dwell on the past, they do not worry about the future – they just live in the present. And in their presence, we do too.

I’ve been so saddened by the divisiveness caused by politics and fuelled by the media – both social and mainstream – these past couple of years. I mean, come on! Aren’t we all in the same storm? We are all sentient beings who surely want what is best for our families, friends, neighbours (both near and far), our environment and ourselves.

I hear many people say how glad they are that it is nearly over and how next year can only get better. (Sounds familiar lol) But I would like to us all to reflect on the positives of the year that was. We can thank the C-word virus for forcing many of us to make changes that were overdue and necessary. We learnt how flexible working environments can be, how adaptable we are, the importance of caring for others, how fragile and robust we can be. I talk about the ‘aha’ moments that happen before my eyes when we have clients work with our horses. I personally feel this whole experience has been an ‘aha’ moment for me.

Enjoy my version of Twelve Days of Christmas – and remember to sing it – not just read it!
